Hyundai Engineering & Construction has launched a localization strategy, including holding a 'Nuclear Power Plant Roadshow' to secure the new construction project of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant in Bulgaria.

Hyundai E&C announced on the 27th that it held the 'Hyundai E&C Bulgaria Nuclear Power Plant Roadshow 2024' at the Hilton Sofia Hotel in Sofia, Bulgaria, on the 25th and 26th (local time).

During this period, Yoon Young-joon, CEO of Hyundai E&C, met with Rumen Radev, President of Bulgaria, at the presidential palace. President Radev stated at the meeting, "Hyundai Motor Group, to which Hyundai E&C belongs, is a global automotive company and has a unique status in Bulgaria, so I hope to discuss cooperation plans with the group as well."

He added, "I look forward to cooperating with Hyundai E&C, which has shown numerous achievements in the global construction market, across the entire nuclear value chain, including large nuclear power plants and next-generation nuclear power plants." CEO Yoon also met with Boyko Borisov, chairman of GERB (the first party), and Delyan Peevski, chairman of MRF (the second party).

Through the roadshow, Hyundai E&C promoted its nuclear power plant construction capabilities and established partnerships with local nuclear-related organizations. It also signed business agreements with the Bulgarian Construction Association and local general construction companies. About 300 people attended the roadshow, including the Bulgarian Minister of Energy, key government officials from both countries, and representatives from the local nuclear power, construction industries, and research institutions.

In his welcoming speech, CEO Yoon said, "Hyundai E&C hopes to become an excellent partner of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant, which is the energy source for the Bulgarian people," adding, "This roadshow is an opportunity to explore cooperation plans with leading Bulgarian companies and secure outstanding local talent, and it will be a milestone in expanding cooperation between the Republic of Korea and Bulgaria."

The new construction project of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant involves adding two large nuclear reactors to the Kozloduy nuclear power plant complex, located about 200 km north of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. Hyundai E&C passed the pre-qualification (PQ) as the sole bidder in February this year and is preparing for the engineering contract.
