Boryeong Mud Festival Opens July 19... Collaboration with Thailand's Songkran Festival
Mud Plaza, Fountain Plaza, and Various Events Held
This year in Boryeong, Chungnam, the excitement is expected to continue with events such as the 27th Boryeong Mud Festival, the 16th National Marine Sports Festival, and the 5th Island Day event.
◇A year-round resort destination, Daecheon Beach representing Boryeong
Daecheon Beach, which first opened on July 15, 1932, is a famous tourist destination visited by over 20 million people, known for its beautiful beach and the only shell sand beach in East Asia. This white sandy beach stretches 3.5 km in length and is 100 meters wide.
It is also well-equipped with various infrastructure and convenience facilities, and since being designated as a tourist special zone in 1997, facilities such as zip tracks and sky bikes have been installed.
Daecheon Beach is recognized as a year-round tourist destination with seasonal festivals and events. In spring, the Boryeong AMC Motor Festival and a clam barbecue festival are held, and in summer, the representative festival of Boryeong, the Boryeong Mud Festival, takes place.
In autumn, festivals for gim (seaweed), shrimp, and croaker are held, and in winter, the Winter Sea Love Festival, beloved by women, is celebrated. Notably, the sports theme park is the only place nationwide where you can enjoy skating while overlooking the sea.
◇Daecheon Beach keeping up with trends
Boryeong City is making two major changes this year. The popular super rushing activity at Daecheon Beach involves walking barefoot on the ground or connecting with nature to heal the body and mind. The soft sandy beach of Daecheon is considered the optimal place for this.
Also, through barefoot walking along the beach, feeling the sea breeze and listening to the sound of waves, visitors can experience the energy of nature, relieve stress, and improve health.
Especially in the era of 15 million pet owners, a pet-friendly beach (Pet Beach) where visitors can enjoy the beach with their dogs will be operated from the 29th of this month to August 18th, and there are 53 accommodations that allow pets.
◇Events to heat up the hot summer even more
The Boryeong Mud Festival, held every July at Daecheon Beach, has established itself as a festival of escapism. This year, it will be held for 17 days from July 19 to August 4, featuring a richer program through collaboration with Thailand’s Songkran Festival.
During the festival, the 16th National Marine Sports Festival will take place, including eight events such as triathlon and fin swimming, along with 15 marine and land experience events at Daecheon Beach and Boryeong Yacht Stadium.
Also, from August 8 to 11, the 5th Island Day commemorative event will be held around Daecheon Beach to promote various island development policies and island-related culture and experience events. Island Day has been designated as a national commemorative day to raise awareness of the value and importance of islands.
◇A place filled with memories and unique features
Daecheon Beach has five plazas, each with its own characteristics: Mud Plaza, Fountain Plaza, Sunset Plaza, Meeting Plaza, and Seagull Plaza.
Mud Plaza symbolizes Daecheon Beach and hosts various festivals and events throughout the year. Fountain Plaza is optimally equipped for families to enjoy, featuring rail bikes, zip tracks, and an emotional mailbox.
Sunset Plaza has a glass bridge overlooking the sea and frequently hosts live performances. Meeting Plaza is located at the center of Daecheon Beach’s plazas and has many different sculptures installed. Seagull Plaza is named because, from aerial photos, it resembles the head of a seagull; it is not crowded and is an ideal place for families to quietly enjoy.
