Chloe Guide Robot to Be Updated Within the Year

LG Electronics is unveiling the 'LG CLOi' robot equipped with Google's next-generation AI large language model (LLM), 'Gemini,' for the first time.

On the 27th, LG Electronics announced that it showcased the CLOi robot equipped with Gemini at the 'Google Cloud Summit Seoul 2024' held at the Shilla Hotel in Jangchung-dong, Seoul. The company demonstrated AI chatbot functions that naturally respond to customer inquiries and the generation of desired photo background images through voice commands.

Gemini is a generative AI model integrated into Google's machine learning (ML) and AI application development platform, 'Vertex AI.' It features multimodality capabilities, receiving commands in various forms including text, voice, images, and coding.

This is the first time generative AI has been installed in the CLOi robot. While the existing CLOi robot can perform various roles such as visitor guidance, advertising, security, and docent services based on pre-input data, its responses to unregistered questions were limited. The LG CLOi robot, enhanced with generative AI language capabilities, autonomously generates various similar questions arising in conversations with customers to strengthen communication functions. It can also provide natural answers through searches to unexpected questions that were not anticipated in advance, enabling more accurate responses to customer inquiries.

LG Electronics plans to launch the 'LG CLOi Guidebot' equipped with Google's generative AI within this year and expand the generative AI functions to existing guide robots through wireless software (SW) updates.

Through this collaboration, LG Electronics is accelerating the establishment of an AI robot ecosystem. Having long positioned robots as a key future business, the company aims to take a step ahead in future ventures by creating synergy between the robot solution data accumulated across various spaces such as airports, hotels, restaurants, hospitals, retail stores, and smart logistics warehouses, and the AI platform technologies of big tech companies.

No Gyuchan, head of LG Electronics' Robot Business Division, said, "Through the synergy of LG Electronics' advanced AI robot technology capabilities and big tech companies' AI platform technologies, we will lead innovation in customer experience in the robot sector, a future new business."

Meanwhile, major global big tech companies are also accelerating AI robot development, and the market is rapidly growing. According to market research firm Statista, the global AI robot market size is expected to grow at an average annual rate of about 25%, reaching approximately $64.35 billion (about 90 trillion KRW) by 2030.
