Gyeonggi Province will conduct periodic water quality surveys of famous valleys and rivers within the province until September.
The Northern Branch of the Gyeonggi-do Institute of Health and Environment announced on the 27th that it plans to survey the water quality of areas frequently used for water activities, such as valleys and rivers, from June to September during the summer vacation season.
This year's water quality survey targets a total of 12 points across the upper, middle, and lower reaches of four locations: Ilyeong Recreation Area in Yangju, Baegun Valley in Pocheon, Yongchu Valley in Gapyeong, and Amicheon in Yeoncheon.
The survey frequency is at least twice a month in June, at least four times a month in July and August, and at least once a month in September, totaling more than 11 surveys.
The water quality test results will be disclosed on the Gyeonggi Water Information System (https://water.gg.go.kr).
The survey item is Escherichia coli (E. coli). If the count exceeds 500 organisms per 100mL, which is the recommended limit for restricting water play activities, water quality information will be provided to visitors, and they will be advised to refrain from water activities. Measures including identifying pollution sources and strengthening water quality inspections will be implemented.
Additionally, if water quality standards are exceeded, further tests such as Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Suspended Solids (SS), Total Phosphorus (T-P), and Total Nitrogen (T-N) will be conducted to precisely investigate the causes of pollution.
Lee Myung-jin, head of the Northern Branch of the Gyeonggi-do Institute of Health and Environment, stated, "We will continue thorough water quality management this year so that residents can enjoy water activities safely and happily."
