Gyeonggi-do Child Meal Support Platform Expanded to 29 Cities and Counties Starting July

Gyeonggi-do Child Meal Support Platform Expanded to 29 Cities and Counties Starting July Child Meal Support Platform

Gyeonggi Province will expand the ‘Child Meal Support Platform’ to 29 cities and counties starting in July. Currently, it is only operated in 10 cities and counties.

The Child Meal Support Platform is a system developed by Gyeonggi Province in 2022 that allows the existing child meal card, which was only usable for in-person payments, to be used on Gyeonggi’s public delivery app, ‘Baedal Teukgeup’. This system has the advantage of enabling children eligible for meal support to order meals non-face-to-face without worrying about stigma effects.

After a pilot project in Yongin and Uiwang last year, it has been operating in 10 cities and counties including Suwon and Pyeongtaek since March.

From March to May, a total of 222,466 transactions were made in the 10 cities and counties. Starting in July, it will be available in all cities and counties except Pocheon and Yangpyeong, which do not use the child meal card.

Users of the platform will receive a delivery coupon worth up to 3,000 KRW that can be used for delivery fees. The delivery coupon can be used up to four times per person per month when ordering.

To help children eligible for meal support easily find nearby available restaurants, a ‘location-based merchant search service’ and a ‘one-on-one Q&A board’ will also be operated.

Gyeonggi Province has introduced a fraud monitoring system to prevent misuse of the child meal card.

Yoo So-jeong, Director of Child Care at Gyeonggi Province, said, "With the expansion to 29 cities and counties, all children eligible for meal support across the province can comfortably have their meals," and added, "We will continue to develop policies for the target children."
