Expectations for Revitalizing Gwangyang Bay Area ESS Manufacturing and Export Base through Korea-China Cooperation
The Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone Authority (Commissioner Song Sang-rak, hereinafter Gwangyang Economic Authority) announced that it held the 2nd Korea-China ESS Forum by inviting the China ESS Industry Association and businesspeople during the 2024 World ESS (Energy Storage System) Expo held at KINTEX in Ilsan from June 25 to 27.
This Korea-China ESS Forum, the second following the forum held in Hangzhou, China, in March this year, was jointly hosted by the Gwangyang Economic Authority, Korea ESS Industry Promotion Association, and China ESS Industry Association under the theme of "Korea-China Cooperation and Role Sharing for Overseas ESS Market Entry."
With expectations for ESS market revitalization following the enactment of the "Special Act on the Activation of Distributed Energy" in June 2023, major Chinese companies such as EVE and LD Group participated, and the forum proceeded amid high interest from domestic companies including LG Electronics, Samchully, and Korea Electric Power Information.
At the forum, the Gwangyang Economic Authority presented the blueprint for the 1.5GWh ESS project in Yulchon Industrial Complex and the establishment of a Korea-China ESS manufacturing and export cooperation pilot complex, drawing significant attention and positive responses from domestic and international companies.
Following the forum, Liu Yong, Secretary-General of the China ESS Industry Association, and the delegation of business representatives visited the exhibition, touring booths of leading domestic ESS companies such as BAEnergy and Inzi e-Solution.
On the 26th, the Chinese delegation is scheduled to be invited to the Gwangyang Bay Area to continue on-site inspections of the Yulchon Industrial Complex ESS project site and the Jeju Island distributed energy pilot complex.
A representative of the Gwangyang Economic Authority stated, "Through this forum and on-site inspection, we will strive to realize the 1.5GWh ESS project in Yulchon Industrial Complex promptly to revitalize the stagnant domestic ESS industry. We will visit the Chengdu area in China in September to concretize cooperation on Korea-China ESS pilot project complexes and develop the Gwangyang Bay Area into a global ESS manufacturing industrial complex in the future."
