Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, and Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, signed a sisterhood agreement on the 26th to create a sustainable future for both cities through mutual exchange and cooperation.
The sisterhood agreement signing ceremony held at the Gwangsan-gu Office was attended by Park Byung-gyu, Mayor of Gwangsan-gu, Park Woo-ryang, Mayor of Sinan-gun, Kim Tae-wan, Chairman of the Gwangsan-gu Council, Kim Hyuk-sung, Chairman of the Sinan-gun Council, and about 40 representatives from both sides.
Since the launch of the 8th local government administration, Gwangsan-gu and Sinan-gun have built ties through learning visits for the creation of Hwangryonggang Ecological Trail 30 and special lectures invited by Mayor Park Woo-ryang.
The sisterhood agreement marks the first step for Gwangsan-gu and Sinan-gun, which have led innovation in South Korea, to move forward as partners realizing a sustainable future and regional coexistence.
Through this agreement, Gwangsan-gu and Sinan-gun will share resources in various fields such as administration, economy, culture, and tourism, and actively discover and promote cooperative projects for mutual growth.
Gwangsan-gu plans to activate policy exchanges in various fields including tourism, culture, arts, and sports between the two cities.
By promoting innovation policy sharing sessions, they will discover new policies incorporating excellent cases from Sinan-gun and seek joint cooperative projects to revitalize the local economy and enhance citizen happiness. Voluntary exchanges and cooperation in the private sector will also be actively supported.
Sinan-gun will provide residents of Gwangsan-gu with discounts on admission and usage fees for seven major tourist sites, including the Bonsai Garden, 1004 Museum Park, Purple Island, and Hongmaehwa Garden.
Mayor Park Woo-ryang of Sinan-gun said, “I am pleased that Sinan-gun, an island where flowers bloom all year round and forests are lush, and which is becoming a world-class cultural and artistic island, and Gwangsan-gu have joined hands for mutual prosperity. We will strive to build a cooperative system where both regions can coexist and become sister cities that grow together.”
Mayor Park Byung-gyu of Gwangsan-gu said, “The sisterhood agreement between Gwangsan-gu and Sinan-gun, both aiming for innovation, holds great significance for our local autonomy itself. We will do our best to ensure that cooperation in all areas, from culture and tourism to urban development, parks, economy, and excellent policies, leads to change and innovation that transform South Korea.”
