2nd Anniversary Press Conference... "Advancing as South Korea's Leading Defense and Military Industry City"

Baek Seong-hyun, mayor of Nonsan City, Chungnam Province, stated on the 26th, “We are always listening to the voices of citizens to open an era of citizen inspiration beyond an era of citizen happiness.”

On the same day, marking the 2nd anniversary of his inauguration, Mayor Baek held a press conference at Tapjeongho Sumo Park and said, “We have only carried out administration thinking of Nonsan and its citizens, but Nonsan has become a city that attracts national attention and amazes the world.”

He especially emphasized, “We have risen as a representative national defense military industry city of Korea, including attracting the Defense Future Technology Research Center under the Defense Science Research Institute, attracting investment from Korea Defense Industry Co., Ltd., and the final approval of the Nonsan Defense National Industrial Complex.”

He then cited major achievements such as △ establishing a growth foundation through livelihood stabilization policies and export and investment attraction △ pioneering profitable sales channels through globalization and diversification of distribution of local agricultural products △ fostering future-oriented advanced agriculture and livestock industry and enjoyable agricultural policies △ great success through festival innovation and content development of regional cultural assets △ sincere welfare policies filled with respect, encouragement, and support △ future education that adds pride to local talents △ and trustworthy and proactive administration based on citizen communication.

Additionally, he presented visions including △ final selection of the Defense Opportunity Development Special Zone and Defense Industry Innovation Cluster △ attraction of public institutions in the defense sector △ successful hosting of the 2027 Nonsan World Strawberry Expo △ creation of the Tapjeongho complex cultural and leisure resort △ improvement of the old downtown image through undergrounding utility poles and installation of landscape lighting △ and projects such as the Hwangryongjae Tunnel in Beolgok-myeon and expansion of National Road 23 (Gang-gyeong to Chaeun).

Mayor Baek Seong-hyun emphasized, “The reason we were able to solve Nonsan’s long-standing issues that everyone said were impossible is the resilience of Nonsan and the power of its citizens,” adding, “For Nonsan’s pride and future value not to stop here but to shine even more brilliantly, the cooperation of citizens is necessary.”
