Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Ikang) announced on the 26th that it will hold the collaborative project with related organizations, ‘Gugak Itda,’ every fourth Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Bitgoeul Gugak Training Center performance hall until December.

The first stage will be held on the 27th with a rock (樂) concert featuring the Bitgoeul Gugak Training Center and the Boseong County Gugak Orchestra from Boseong County, the hometown of Seopyeonje sound.
In this performance, starting with the pansori ‘Chunhyangga - Ssukdaemeori (Kim Sejong style Chunhyangga),’ one of the prison songs sung by Chunhyang longing for her lover, you can also experience ▲ Park Gwanyong style ‘Jindo Bukchum’ ▲ seated Ban Samulnori, among others.
Additionally, the gugak songs ‘Taepyeongga, Ongheya Kwaejinachingchingnaene, Saetaryeong,’ which are traditional folk songs rearranged into modern, rhythmic pieces that everyone from young to old can enjoy, will be reborn as an exciting traditional art stage infused with the unique color of the Boseong County Gugak Orchestra by adding the sensibilities of gugak and modernity.
A representative of the Bitgoeul Gugak Training Center said, “Through this ‘Gugak Itda’ performance connecting tradition and modernity, generation and generation, performers and audience, we hope residents can enjoy excellent cultural performances together, empathize, and communicate.”
He added, “Especially, we hope this lively gugak performance by the Boseong County Gugak Orchestra, meeting in Gwangju, the center of Honam culture and arts, will provide a moment of healing and help forget the heat for a while.”
The performance is free to watch without any separate application. Also, each performance will be broadcast live on the Bitgoeul Gugak Training Center’s YouTube channel.
