"Maritime Historical Figure Mun Sunduk's Drifting Journey Presented Under Summer Scenery"
Shinan-gun, Jeollanam-do is drawing attention with the ‘2024 Shinan International Moon Festa’ held at Suguk Park and Uido in Dochomyeon.
According to the county, this event, which runs from the 26th to the 27th under a cheerful summer landscape, is hosted by the World Madang Art Promotion Association and features a variety of programs centered on the drifting journey of Mun Sunduk, a maritime historical figure of Shinan.
The event held at Suguk Park and Uido includes various artistic performances such as the Mun Sunduk drifting Madanggeuk (traditional Korean outdoor play), image performances, and Suguk busking.

Additionally, the event introduces a program called ‘Island Roadschola’ for tourists. This program has already gained great popularity through advance reservations, offering a special opportunity to explore the island’s history and culture while following in the footsteps of Mun Sunduk, enjoying both fun and experience.
County Governor Park Woorang said about the event, “I hope people can enjoy various cultural and artistic performances with Mun Sunduk amid the summer scenery where the hydrangeas are in full bloom.”
Mun Sunduk, a skate fish merchant, is a figure who, after going to Heuksando in 1801 to buy skate fish, traveled through Okinawa, the Philippines, Macao, and China, and returned to his hometown Uido after 3 years and 2 months. His fascinating journey can be experienced through the event.
Through the annual ‘Shinan International Moon Festa,’ it is expected that visitors will be able to enjoy a special time where Shinan’s beautiful nature, history, and art harmonize.
