Discussion on Theme Facility and Landscape Improvement Plan
Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will hold a designation ceremony and public hearing for the ‘Judicial Justice Hub,’ aimed at developing the Seocho-dong legal district into a representative judicial street of the Asia-Pacific region, on July 1 at 3 p.m. at the White Wave Art Center.
The ‘Judicial Justice Hub’ covers an area of 536,000㎡ centered around Banpodaero, stretching from Seocho Station?home to the nation’s largest legal district including the Supreme Court, Supreme Prosecutors’ Office, and Korean Bar Association?to Nue Bridge, and Seocho-daero from Seoripul Tunnel to Gyodae Station. Seocho-gu officially designated this area as the ‘Judicial Justice Hub’ street on March 26.
About 200 participants including related organizations such as the courts, prosecution, police, Korean Bar Association, Seoul Bar Association, design experts, and residents will attend the public hearing, which will open with the ‘Judicial Justice Hub’ proclamation ceremony. The second part will feature presentations and panel discussions on design and landscape improvement plans for facilities themed around judicial justice.
The discussion will focus primarily on improvement measures for the proliferation of banners and wreaths within the legal district. Through an academic research project on the creation of the Judicial Justice Hub conducted last year, the district identified significant demands from legal professionals and residents for street maintenance to reduce clutter caused by banners and placards, as well as for changes to the external environment design to alleviate the bleak image.
Panelists include eight representatives and experts from related organizations such as lawyer Hwang Cheol-gyu (chair), former president of the International Association of Prosecutors, the Supreme Court, Supreme Prosecutors’ Office, Seocho Police Station, Korean Bar Association, Seoul Bar Association, and design experts. After the discussion, there will be a Q&A session with the audience.
The district plans to incorporate the opinions gathered at the public hearing into the Judicial Justice Hub development project and produce and install facilities that can symbolize the street’s identity.
Meanwhile, Seocho-gu recognizes the need for various programs that break away from the rigid image of the law and allow the general public to easily experience it. It operates diverse programs related to legal culture, including judicial tours linked with the Supreme Court and Supreme Prosecutors’ Office.
Mayor Jeon Seong-su stated, “We will strive to transform the Seocho legal district into the judicial and justice center of the Asia-Pacific region, comparable to the world-renowned legal city of The Hague.”
