On the 24th (local time), CBS reported that Perry suffered fatal injuries from a shark attack while surfing near Oahu, Hawaii the previous day and ultimately passed away. That afternoon, the Honolulu Marine Safety Department, along with fire, ambulance, and police authorities, responded to a report of a surfer severely injured by a shark. Rescuers brought the injured Perry to shore on a jet ski, but he eventually died.

Perry began gaining recognition as a surfer in the early 2000s in Hawaii and other areas. He ran a surfing experience class with his wife in Oahu and taught surfing. Since 2016, he also worked as a lifeguard on Oahu's North Shore. Additionally, he was active as an actor, appearing in films such as "Blue Crush" (2002) and "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" (2011).

Kurt Lager, acting director of the Honolulu Marine Safety Department, expressed condolences, saying, "Perry was a beloved lifeguard to everyone." Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi also said, "Perry was a legendary 'waterman' and highly respected. His death is a tragic loss."

Meanwhile, according to the International Shark Attack File, which compiles global data on shark attacks, fatal shark attacks doubled last year compared to the previous year. In the United States, Florida experiences the most shark attacks, but half of the life-threatening attacks occurred in Hawaii.
