Kim Hanna, the wife of the late Sergeant Han Sang-guk who died in the Second Battle of Yeonpyeong, will serve as the chairperson of the support committee for Han Dong-hoon, a candidate for the leadership of the People Power Party.
Han’s campaign announced on the 25th, "We have invited Ms. Kim, the wife of the hero of the Yeonpyeong Battle, Sergeant Han, to be the chairperson of the support committee," adding, "We asked Ms. Kim to take on this role to remember the dedication of our country’s patriotic heroes and to reflect on the meaning of veterans’ affairs."
In a handwritten letter sent to the campaign, Ms. Kim wrote, "Since I first met candidate Han at the West Sea Defense Day event last March, we have maintained continuous contact. Despite his busy schedule, he sent encouraging messages and actively supported fundraising for a children’s storybook project, for which I am very grateful."

She continued, "When I was contacted by candidate Han to serve as the chairperson of the support committee, I hesitated at first, feeling it was an honor beyond my capacity. However, I felt his sincere commitment to those who sacrificed for the country and the people, so I courageously accepted the position."
Han’s campaign completed the registration of the support committee on the same day and plans to officially begin fundraising activities around the 28th once the bank account is set up.
Meanwhile, the People Power Party’s leadership race has narrowed down to a four-way contest among former Emergency Response Committee Chairman Han Dong-hoon, former Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong, and lawmakers Na Kyung-won and Yoon Sang-hyun. The party plans to hold a party convention on July 23 to elect the next party leadership.
