On the 25th, Yonhap News reported a story about citizens saving a duck family stranded on a road in Saesol-dong, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi Province. Mr. Park Sang-ho (51) discovered a mother duck and six ducklings stuck at the edge of the first lane of a three-lane one-way road at around 7:25 a.m. At the time, Mr. Park was driving home after finishing an overnight shift at an apartment management office. Although he initially passed by the duck family, he soon turned his car around and returned.

Mr. Park explained the situation, saying, "When I came back to that spot, the ducks that were in the first lane had moved to the second lane," and "Cars were speeding by but suddenly braking hard to avoid the ducks, creating a tense situation." To protect the duck family, Mr. Park drove slowly in the second lane with his hazard lights on, guiding the ducks toward the edge of the third lane. He then asked a pedestrian walking on the sidewalk for help, and together they lifted the duck family onto the sidewalk.

Mr. Park said, "The mother duck climbed onto the sidewalk on her own, but the ducklings couldn’t get up because of the high curb, so they were dangerously stuck on the road," adding, "With the help of a citizen, five ducklings were lifted by hand onto the road where the mother was, and the remaining one was guided to a lower curb at the edge of the road to reunite with the family." He continued, "I led the duck family instinctively toward where the mother was heading and confirmed they went toward the forest." He also expressed gratitude to the citizen who, despite being a stranger, willingly accepted his request for help.

Although he must have been very tired from his overnight shift, Mr. Park spent about 20 to 30 minutes rescuing the duck family. However, he said, "There was no time to think about being tired," and "When I found the duck family stranded on the road, I felt so pitiful and helpless that my body reacted first." Mr. Park added, "I wanted to let people know that all lives, whether human or animal, are precious, so I reported this to the media," and "I hope others will not panic in similar situations and handle them wisely."
