Cheongmicheon Dredging Project Cooperation
Local governments and military units have joined forces to prevent flood damage during the rainy season.
On the 25th, Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it will carry out a dredging project on Cheongmicheon Stream in the Wolpoli area of Yul-myeon together with the 7th Engineer Brigade, a military unit in the jurisdiction.

The Wolpoli section of Cheongmicheon Stream has long been a concern for flooding disasters every rainy season due to sediment accumulated over decades. This project is being promoted by the 7th Engineer Brigade responding to the city's request by providing manpower and equipment. Previously, Icheon City and the 7th Engineer Brigade cooperated on a river dredging project in October last year.
For this project, the 7th Engineer Brigade is deploying 24 soldiers and six pieces of equipment including excavators and dump trucks, while Icheon City is providing favorable working conditions such as creating rest areas for the soldiers. The city expects that once the dredging project is completed by the end of this month, the recurring flooding of surrounding farmland during the rainy season will be resolved and the river’s functionality will be maintained.
Mayor Kim Kyung-hee of Icheon said, "I am grateful to the military personnel who actively cooperated for the citizens," adding, "We will continue to discover military cooperation projects that can benefit the citizens and strive to make Icheon a city of security."
