On the 25th, the Seo-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City adopted the "Resolution Urging the Prompt Passage of the Special Investigation Act for the Truth Clarification of Chaesangbyeong's Death in the Line of Duty," which was proposed by Representative Kim Hyung-mi, at the 3rd plenary session of the 1st regular meeting of the 322nd session.
Representative Kim stated, "The state, which should protect its citizens, must investigate the truth, hold those responsible accountable for any wrongdoing, and establish strict measures to prevent recurrence. However, the investigation results by the Marine Corps Military Police were overturned, and the division commander's charges were omitted," adding, "Discussion on recurrence prevention measures has not even begun."
She further explained the reason for the proposal, saying, "The 22nd National Assembly must promptly pass the Special Investigation Act concerning Chaesangbyeong's death in the line of duty to ensure that our sons do not suffer any further sacrifices."
In response, the Seo-gu Council urged, "The cause of the accident must be thoroughly investigated to clarify the truth and punish those responsible," and emphasized, "To ensure equality before the law for all citizens, the Chaesangbyeong Special Investigation Act must be immediately accepted."
The Seo-gu Council plans to deliver the adopted resolution to the President, the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Minister of National Defense, the Commander of the Marine Corps, and others.
