"Changwon Tap Water is Safe" ... Changwon Special City Confirms All Drinking Water Quality Standards Met

From Water Treatment Plant to Tap: All Supply Stages Meet Water Quality Standards

The Changwon Waterworks Office in Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, announced on the 25th that the results of the first half-year tap water quality inspection in Changwon met all drinking water quality standards.

The subjects and items of the water quality inspection included 41 items for raw water and 60 items for purified water at five water purification plants, including Chilseo Water Purification Plant, which are tap water production facilities; 11 items at 31 locations during the water supply process such as booster stations and reservoirs; 4 items at 114 household faucets in general areas; and 10 items at 8 faucets in old pipeline areas.


Looking at the detailed inspection results, all items met the drinking water quality standards, including 4 items for microorganisms such as general bacteria, 12 items for hazardous inorganic substances such as heavy metals, 17 items for hazardous organic substances such as phenol, 11 items for disinfectants and disinfection by-products such as total trihalomethanes, and 16 items for aesthetic impact substances such as hardness.


As for the water quality inspection results of a total of 114 household faucets selected according to the water-supplied population and 8 faucets in old pipelines, the residual chlorine concentration for suppressing microorganism growth was at an appropriate level, and all points met the water quality standards.


In addition, although there are no established drinking water quality standards for certain items, all 16 monitoring items that require regular management and all monitoring items set by Changwon City met the criteria. In preparation for algal bloom during the summer, the inspection frequency for algal toxins and odor substances will be further strengthened starting in June.


Lee Jongdeok, head of the Waterworks Office, stated, "According to the water quality inspection results, Changwon's Cheonga Water, safely produced at the purification plants, is being supplied appropriately through the water supply process and to each household. We will continue our efforts so that citizens can drink it with even greater peace of mind."
