Helping Harvest Cherry Tomatoes at Pureume Social Farm
Delivering a Warm and Hearty Meal, the 'Burger of Happiness'
Korea McDonald's announced on the 25th that its employees participated in regular volunteer activities at the advanced smart farm 'Purume Social Farm,' which supports the independence of young adults with developmental disabilities.
Purume Social Farm is a smart farm established in September 2022 in Yeoju-si, Gyeonggi Province by the non-profit public foundation Purume Foundation to support the sustainable lives of people with developmental disabilities. Disabled young adults are hired as regular employees here, receiving fair wages and rights while preparing for independence. Since last year, McDonald's employees have been visiting Purume Social Farm quarterly to continue regular volunteer work.

During this year’s volunteer activities, McDonald's employees helped young adults with developmental disabilities at Purume Social Farm cultivate and harvest cherry tomatoes. They also participated in sorting, trimming, processing, and packaging the agricultural products for commercialization.
To add meaning to sharing, McDonald's employees delivered 'Happiness Burgers' to the young adults after work, offering warm words of encouragement. The Happiness Burger campaign is McDonald's representative social contribution activity that provides a warm and hearty meal to members who strive for their neighbors and local communities.
A representative from Korea McDonald's stated, "The voluntary participation of employees who want to enjoy the fulfillment and joy of harvesting crops together with young adults with developmental disabilities continues," and added, "We will continue to strive to grow together with the local community and realize the value of sharing through various programs."
Meanwhile, McDonald's operates a hiring system based on the value of 'inclusion,' which should be open to everyone, without discrimination based on education, age, gender, or disability. It has also introduced and operates the kiosk voice guidance function for visually impaired customers, becoming the second in the world and the first in Asia among McDonald's locations.
