Busan City Holds Memorial Ceremony for United Nations Fallen Soldiers of the Korean War UN Memorial Park

The memorial ceremony has been held annually at the UN Memorial Cemetery since 1998 to honor and comfort the spirits of the UN fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the protection of peace and the values of freedom on the Korean Peninsula, and to commemorate the sacrifices and dedication of the veterans.

The event is sponsored by the city and organized by the Busan Metropolitan Chapter of the Korea Freedom Federation.

Approximately 2,300 people, including Mayor Park Hyungjun, heads of major institutions, citizens, and students from various schools, will attend the memorial ceremony. The ceremony will proceed in the following order: national salute, commemorative address, guest memorial speeches, floral tribute, silent tribute, and a choral performance of the Korean War song.

In particular, this year's memorial ceremony will be attended by US Navy Commander Neil Koprowski, representing the United Nations Command, and Ms. Lavin, the granddaughter of a Turkish veteran, adding deeper significance to the event.

Mayor Park Hyungjun stated, "Reflecting on the painful lessons of war, I extend my heartfelt respect and remembrance for the noble sacrifice and dedication of the fallen soldiers who bravely perished as part of the UN forces," and added, "When June comes, I hope we remember the UN Memorial Cemetery where the youth who died defending freedom and peace rest, and that we never forget the sacrifices and dedication that made today's Republic of Korea and Busan possible. I pray for the eternal rest of the UN fallen soldiers and for peace to prevail in places around the world still suffering from the pain of war."
