"A time to realize many things and grow"

Rapper Microdot, who had suspended his activities amid controversy over his parents' 'debt exposure' (celebrity family debt revelations), appeared in public for the first time in six years and once again apologized for the related controversy.

On the 24th, Yonhap News and others reported that Microdot held a press conference at the Yesulnamu Theater in Guro-gu, Seoul, to commemorate the release of his new mini-album 'DARKSIDE' and said, "I sincerely apologize to those who have been harmed and hurt because of my parents and me."

Having suspended his activities for six years following the 'debt exposure' controversy involving his parents in 2018, he said, "I am very nervous to greet you all like this again," and added, "I have spent a lot of time reflecting and making efforts since the incident." After apologizing to the victims, he bowed his head at a 90-degree angle for about 20 seconds. He said, "Meeting each victim individually to apologize was the priority," and added, "That is why six years have passed."

He also said, "I deeply regret my initial response. I am reflecting a lot," and added, "It was a very foolish action. Even now, thinking back, it was naive." He apologized again, saying, "I am sorry."

Previously active in various TV entertainment programs, Microdot suspended his activities in 2018 when his parents' past 'debt exposure' became known. Microdot's parents were prosecuted on charges of fleeing to New Zealand in 1998 after borrowing about 400 million won from 14 relatives and acquaintances while running a dairy farm in Jecheon, Chungbuk, in the 1990s, without repaying the money. Microdot's father and mother were sentenced to three years and one year respectively for fraud, served their sentences, and were deported to New Zealand.

When the controversy first arose, Microdot said, "It is groundless. I will take legal action," but as evidence continued to emerge, he apologized, saying, "I was careless and spoke without fully understanding the situation, causing hurt to the victims," and withdrew from all programs. Afterwards, he announced his survival in the popular music scene by releasing a new song in 2020 but did not appear in public.

On this day, Microdot said, "There have been many difficulties in life, but it was a time that made me realize many things and helped me grow," and added, "It also made me think about the preciousness of life. That time has become a foundation not only for now but also for the future and for the work on my album."
