[One Day Walk] Fishing Platform and Picturesque Yongsul Lake Route... Anseong Course 39

18km from Gwangcheon Village Bus Stop to Chiljangsa Temple

The Anseong 39 Course of the Gyeonggi Dullegil Trail stretches from the south of the Han River and north of the Geum River, connecting Gwangcheon Village Bus Stop to Chiljangsa Temple. The starting point is the Hyeonpung Gwak Clan's Chung Hyogak. The Hyeonpung Gwak clan, who formed a clan village in Jangam-ri and Hwabong-ri Songsan Village, and Gwangcheon Village in Iljuk-myeon from the mid-15th century, is said to have produced filial sons and daughters-in-law for three generations.

Nearby in Maesan-ri, Juksan-myeon, Anseong City, there is Jukjusan Fortress. It is estimated to have been built during the 6th century in the Three Kingdoms period. This area is a junction dividing the Chungcheong, Jeolla, and Gyeongsang provinces in the southern region, and has been a strategic point since the Three Kingdoms era. During the Goryeo Dynasty, it was a site of a 15-day battle during the third Mongol invasion, resulting in victory. It was also a fierce battleground during the Imjin War. The fortress has a triple structure consisting of the inner fortress, main fortress, and outer fortress.

Nearby cultural heritage includes Anseong Bong-eopsa Site. Bong-eopsa Temple was a patriotic temple established to commemorate the founding of Goryeo. Remaining relics at the Bong-eopsa site include the five-story stone pagoda of Juksan-ri and the flagpole supports of Juksan-ri. The walking path corresponds to the old Yeongnam Road. In the Joseon Dynasty, six major roads connecting Hanyang and various provinces were called the Joseon Yukdaero, and Yeongnam Road was the fourth route connecting Hanyang to Dongnae. In Gyeonggi Province, this road passes through Seongnam, Yongin, Anseong, and Icheon.

Walking along this road, which has been shared since the boundary between Icheon and Anseong, beyond the hill farmland, a roof with a cross comes into view. This is the Catholic Juksan Holy Ground. It is the site where believers were executed during the 1866 Byeongin Persecution of Catholics. In the past, it was also called Ijin (夷陳) site because Mongol troops camped here during the Goryeo period. Since 1994, this place has been developed into a martyrdom site with 24 martyr graves and a cathedral. The place where pilgrims continue to visit is the tomb of the martyrs. On the left and right are Hyeonam stones shaped like bamboo, and in the center lies the grave of an unnamed martyr.

Leaving behind this heartbreaking historical site, a completely different landscape unfolds. This is Yongseol Lake, well known as a picturesque spot with fishing platforms. You can walk along the walking trail surrounding the lake. After passing Yongseol Lake, the path becomes a mountain trail. Approaching the summit of Chiljang Mountain and descending to Chiljangsa Temple marks the destination.
