Haman County in Gyeongnam will hold an on-site briefing session for the 'Precision Excavation Survey of the Haman Marisan Tumuli (Dohang-ri 571 area),' which is currently being investigated as part of the 'Marisan Tumuli Valley Area Maintenance Project,' on the 25th at 2 p.m.

In connection with the Marisan Tumuli Valley Area Maintenance Project, which is part of the National Heritage Administration's 2023 Nationally Designated Cultural Heritage Conservation and Maintenance Project, the county commissioned the Gyeongnam Institute of History and Culture to conduct a preliminary survey of the project site. Through this, relics from the Bronze Age, Three Kingdoms Period, and Joseon Dynasty were identified, leading to a transition to a precision excavation survey.

Accordingly, excavation has been underway since April this year, and as a result, remains such as ditches from the Bronze Age to the Goryeo Dynasty, a Joseon Dynasty roof-tile kiln, and two stone-lined tombs were confirmed.

Among these, within the Marisan Tumuli, two stone-lined tombs of small to medium scale yielded finds such as Aragaya pottery, horse harness fittings, iron arrowheads, iron ingots, as well as gold earrings and necklaces. In addition, the two stone-lined tombs feature a tripartite internal structure, representing the typical form of small to medium-sized tombs in the Marisan Tumuli.

A county official stated, "Based on the achievements of the excavation survey, we will promote a systematic and sincere maintenance project to ensure the best possible preservation and management of the Marisan Tumuli, a World Heritage site."
