Residents of Gyeonggi Province identified ‘character education’ as the top priority in Gyeonggi education policy. Additionally, 73% expressed agreement with the educational policy direction of Superintendent Lim Tae-hee and the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education.
The Provincial Office of Education announced the results of a public opinion survey on the achievements and challenges of Gyeonggi education’s second anniversary on the 24th.
According to the announcement, character education was chosen by 63% of Gyeonggi residents as the most important future task. This was followed by ▲improvement of the educational environment (14%) ▲protection of educational activities (7%) ▲community cooperation (6%) ▲academic achievement enhancement (4%).
Since taking office in 2022, Superintendent Lim Tae-hee has consistently emphasized that "character education is an important spirit of the times," and stressed that "cooperation among schools, families, and communities is crucial for this."
In the evaluation of major policies implemented during Superintendent Lim’s two years in office, the Neulbom School (73%) and autonomous meal choice (71%) policies received high marks. Following these were digital citizenship education (66%), community cooperation shared schools (63%), Gyeonggi character education (62%), alleviation of overcrowded classes and schools (59%), education utilizing edutech (59%), and academic achievement curriculum (58%).
Shin Sung-hyun, head of Korea Research, analyzed, "52% of residents view the path taken by the 5th directly elected Gyeonggi education over the past two years positively," adding, "Since evaluations of individual policies are around 60%, the outlook for the third year is expected to be bright."
Meanwhile, this public opinion survey was conducted via telephone interviews over three days from June 3 to 5, targeting 1,200 Gyeonggi residents aged 19 and older. The survey was conducted by Korea Research, with a sampling error of ±2.83 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
