The previous 15 types of national veterans ID cards have been integrated into a single national veterans registration card equipped with IC chips and anti-counterfeiting and tampering technologies. Notably, last year it was designated as one of the seven major national ID cards, allowing issuance of the mobile national veterans registration card via smartphone, enabling identity verification without time or location constraints.
However, most of the eligible recipients for the national veterans registration card are elderly and not familiar with digital devices. Therefore, many face difficulties in applying for card renewal and installing the mobile national veterans registration card.
To assist elderly individuals in obtaining the mobile national veterans registration card, the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation, in cooperation with the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, is conducting a campaign to promote card issuance by operating supporters at the Seoul, Southern Gyeonggi, Northern Gyeonggi, Daejeon, and Daegu regional offices.
Additionally, the campaign plans to collect feedback from key recipients on-site to explore ways to improve related services in the future.
The mobile national veterans registration card can be used as an ID in various fields such as finance and public services, and it also facilitates convenient access to various government benefits and support for national merit recipients.
Sung Chang-hoon, President of the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation, stated, “We will do our best to operate a reliable and stable national ID service trusted by the public.”
Meanwhile, the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation was designated as a mobile ID specialized institution by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in 2021 and currently operates mobile versions of government employee IDs, driver’s licenses, and national veterans registration cards. Next year, it plans to provide mobile resident registration card services and pursue exporting mobile IDs overseas.
