Senco, a specialized company in electrochemical gas sensors, announced on the 24th that it has been selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s ‘2024 Small and Medium-sized Smart City Development Project.’

The Small and Medium-sized Smart City project aims to create leading cities equipped with specialized solutions to help small and medium-sized cities secure resilience against environmental changes such as the climate crisis and regional extinction. A total of 17 local governments applied for this development project, showing a competition rate of 5.7 to 1. Ultimately, Gwangmyeong-si (climate crisis response type), Taebaek-si (regional extinction response type), and Gyeongsan-si (regional extinction response type) were selected. Each of these cities will receive 8 billion KRW in national funding over three years.

Through this selection, Senco will serve as the lead company for Gyeongsan-si and carry out a project worth approximately 18 billion KRW together with consortium partners until 2026. Senco is a specialized company in electrochemical gas sensors and supplies various smart city solutions, including IoT sensor devices along with sensors for detecting air pollutants.

In this project, Senco plans to participate in the development of ▲ Climate Crisis Response Citizen Happiness Solution ▲ Smart Media Art Solution ▲ AI-based Gyeongsan Smart APP ▲ Youth Startup Smart Platform.

Additionally, together with Senco, Gyeongsan-si aims to revitalize the young city by addressing the decline in the local economy caused by the decrease in the youth population through the activation of advanced industries and urban services based on urban data.

CEO Ha Seung-cheol of Senco stated, “Senco is engaged not only in producing sensors and IoT sensor devices for collecting urban environmental data but also in supplying various smart city solutions,” adding, “Recently, through participation in projects such as Smart City, Smart Green Industrial Complex, and Smart Town Challenge, we have been enhancing our core competencies in various smart solutions and smart services beyond safety and environmental fields.”

He continued, “Smart city solutions are one of the key solutions to various problems caused by climate change and population decline in small and medium-sized local cities,” and added, “This development project is an important example demonstrating the national will to build smart cities and will be a new growth opportunity for Senco.”
