Gyeonggi International Airport 'Deliberation White Paper' to be Released by the End of July

Gyeonggi International Airport 'Deliberation White Paper' to be Released by the End of July Gyeonggi International Airport Deliberative Forum

Gyeonggi Province will publish a white paper on the deliberative public opinion survey regarding the ‘Gyeonggi International Airport’ by the end of July.

On the 24th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it held the ‘Gyeonggi International Airport Deliberative Forum’ over two days from the 22nd to the 23rd at the YBM Training Center with about 200 citizen participants. This deliberative public opinion survey was conducted in two phases.

First, from May 13 to 20, Gyeonggi Province conducted the first public opinion survey targeting 3,000 Gyeonggi residents using a wired and wireless RDD (random digit dialing) telephone interview method. Then, from May 27 to June 5, about 200 citizen participants were selected from among the survey respondents.

The deliberative forum was composed of two sessions: “Why Gyeonggi International Airport?” and “How to Build Gyeonggi International Airport?”

During the forum, experts presented content on detailed topics, and the participants deliberated on various issues related to the discussion topics before organizing their own positions and thoughts. This process also included a Q&A session with the experts.

Each of the 20 groups, consisting of 10 members each, had time to confirm each other’s opinions regarding the construction of Gyeonggi International Airport. Afterwards, they participated in a final survey. Considering that Gyeonggi International Airport is a future agenda, a small number of teenagers aged 15 and older were also selected to have their voices heard.

Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, delivered a written greeting on the day, stating, “An international airport with high accessibility is needed in the southern Gyeonggi area, where population and industries are concentrated. Especially in southern Gyeonggi, a future industry belt including semiconductors is being significantly formed, and if a competitive logistics hub that will serve as the foundation for exports is supported, it will drive greater growth not only for Gyeonggi Province but also for the Republic of Korea.” He added, “This forum is an opportunity to expand citizens’ participation in policy. We will listen carefully to diverse opinions and use them as a valuable foundation for the construction of the international airport.”

Gyeonggi Province will analyze and organize the various citizen opinions presented as the future vision of Gyeonggi International Airport during this deliberative forum and release them in the form of a white paper by the end of July. The results derived from the public opinion survey will also be reflected in the ‘Study on the Establishment of the Vision and Promotion Plan for the Construction of Gyeonggi International Airport,’ scheduled for completion in August.
