[One Day Walk] Following the Path of Peddlers to Janghowon Traditional Market... Icheon Course 38

21.3km from Janghowon Bus Terminal to Gwangcheon Village Stop

The Icheon 38 Course of the Gyeonggi Dullegil is a route that allows you to explore Janghowon Traditional Market. Crossing the road 'Janggam-ro' that runs through the town of Janghowon, you arrive at Janghowon Traditional Market. This market is located at a transportation hub where north-south and east-west routes intersect. Janggam-ro connects to Gamgok-myeon in Eumseong-gun, Chungbuk Province. Onam-ri, Janghowon-eup, where the market is located, faces Eumseong-gun, Chungbuk Province, across the Cheongmi Stream. This has been the reason why Janghowon Traditional Market has long been a livelihood base for peddlers from both Gyeonggi-do and Chungcheong-do regions.

The market is filled with various foods, including the local specialty, Hetsare peaches. The sweet juice and rich aroma of Hetsare peaches are well known. Early peaches start to appear in July. Among the Janghowon peach varieties, the most prized is the ‘Janghowon Hwangdo’. It has the best sweetness and fragrance. In September, when Janghowon Hwangdo is harvested, the 'Hetsare Peach Festival' is also held.

The reputation of Icheon rice is equally notable. Icheon rice, which was once presented to the king, is widely known under the brand name ‘Imgeummanpyo’ (King’s Label). It is regarded as the best rice in the country, made from the combination of warm sunlight, clear water, and fertile soil. At the folk markets held on the 4th and 9th of every month, you can find not only peaches and rice but also various local specialties.

Along the path following the Cheongmi Stream, there are magnificent plane trees that grow so tall they seem to block the sky. The shade cast by the plane trees during the hot season is a great gift to those walking this path. On one side of the waterside trail along Cheongmi Stream, water flows, and on the other side, you can enjoy views of rice paddies and fields.

Walking along the waterway from Cheongmi Stream to Seokwoncheon and then to Geumsancheon, you pass the upper reaches of Geumsancheon, crossing the boundary between Icheon and Anseong. The nearby Seongho Lake lotus flower garden also offers a beautiful view. Especially from early to late summer, it is a great opportunity to take a photo with the yellow, white, and pink lotus flowers that bloom and fade during this time. The lotus flower garden covers about 24,000㎡, with lotus flowers blooming over 17,500㎡. A walking path is provided so visitors can stroll around the lake while enjoying the lotus flowers. Seongho Lake is also famous as a fishing spot, where carp, crucian carp, common carp, catfish, and snakehead fish are commonly caught.
