Landslide Early Warning Issued, Patrols Strengthened
Focus on Resident Awareness for Heavy Rain Preparedness
Hapcheon County in Gyeongnam announced on the 24th that it is strengthening patrols in landslide-prone areas following the issuance of medium-term landslide advisories and warnings.
Starting with safety training for the landslide prevention team, the county has been focusing on patrols and inspections to prevent disasters in vulnerable areas, taking preemptive measures such as removing debris from drainage systems, providing advance evacuation guidance to residents in vulnerable areas when landslide advisories or warnings are issued, and strengthening promotional activities to encourage early evacuation among residents living near landslide-prone zones.
In addition, installation of signboards and banners has been completed at 260 landslide-prone locations. Since the 11th, starting with Ssangbaek-myeon, evacuation assistant training for village heads has been conducted during meetings in all towns and villages to help prevent damage from landslides.
A county official advised residents living near landslide-prone areas, "It is essential to familiarize yourself in advance with the location of your local evacuation shelter, evacuation routes, and the contact information for evacuation managers and assistants. Prior communication with village evacuation assistants (such as the village head, Saemaeul leaders, or volunteer firefighters) is especially important," adding, "If an evacuation advisory or order is issued via disaster text message or village broadcast, please take only essential items (such as medication) and cooperate by evacuating immediately to the designated shelter."
