Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is expanding barefoot walking trails in natural spaces within the city, and next month, a new barefoot walking trail will open in the Hyochon 2 District.
According to Nam-gu on the 24th, the completion ceremony for the Hyochon 2 District barefoot walking trail will be held on the 1st of next month near Dasom Kindergarten in Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City.
About 100 people, including District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae, Gwangju Mayor Kang Ki-jung, local council members, and residents, are expected to attend the ceremony. On this day, residents of Hyochon 2 District will present a plaque of appreciation to Mayor Kim Byeong-nae for the creation of the barefoot walking trail.
Nam-gu invested 150 million won starting from November last year to improve the environment of the riverside neighborhood park, aiming to provide Hyochon district residents with a restful life in nature.
The Hyochon 2 District barefoot walking trail is the sixth barefoot path in the district, located between an apartment complex and the riverside neighborhood park.
Visitors can walk along a wooded forest path, and facilities are provided to wash feet after the walk.
Additionally, six benches have been installed under tree shade for resting during the walk, and LED lights are installed throughout the area.
Alongside the barefoot trail, there is also a permeable block path for walking with shoes on.
Since the small holes on the blocks absorb moisture when it rains or water seeps in, it can be used anytime. For those accompanied by pets, the use of the permeable block paved walking trail is recommended to maintain cleanliness and safety of the barefoot trail.
A Nam-gu official stated, "Nearby apartment complexes and kindergartens have continuously requested environmental improvements. Even before the opening, residents of Hyochon 2 District have been frequently visiting this trail and resting area. We hope they enjoy a healthy and abundant life in nature."
Meanwhile, Nam-gu is newly creating barefoot walking trails in five locations this year, including Wolsan Neighborhood Park and Bullo Children's Park. Currently, barefoot walking trails are established in the district at locations such as Yuan Neighborhood Park, Jesuk Mountain Cypress Forest, the top of Yongsan Tunnel, Bunjeok Mountain Cypress Forest, and around Geumdang Mountain.
