Transmission Network Infrastructure Improvement
Reduced Power and Carbon Consumption
KT announced on the 24th that it has upgraded its transmission network connecting 270 communication hubs nationwide to an infrastructure capable of transmitting data at a speed of 100 gigabits per second (100Gbps).
This is the first time a domestic telecommunications company has connected all major communication facilities at the 100-gigabit level. The capacity of the existing transmission network was about 10 gigabits per second.
KT improved the performance of the transmission network reflecting the trend of B2B customers using dedicated line services demanding faster data processing speeds. The speed of the newly built transmission network is 10 times faster, and the capacity of the transmission equipment has increased sixfold compared to before, greatly enhancing the stability of data transmission.
KT stated that the improvement of the transmission network infrastructure not only enables efficient management of large-volume traffic but also allows for rapid response to 5G infrastructure expansion and customer demands. They explained that as the outdated low-speed facilities have been reduced, it is also expected to have the effect of reducing power consumption and carbon emissions.
Kwon Hye-jin, Executive Director of KT’s Network Strategy Headquarters, said, "Through the next-generation integrated transmission network based on the 100G network, we have integrated the existing outdated transmission networks and are providing more stable services. We will continue to advance the network to offer customers even better service quality."
