Elementary and Middle School Students in Gangdong-gu Receive Ecological Education at the National Institute of Ecology

Gangdong-gu, First Seoul District to Sign Business Agreement with National Institute of Ecology
Agreement Signed on 20th to Promote Ecological Education for Residents
Mutual Cooperation Agreed for Joint Program Development, Operation, and Support to Spread Ecology-Centered Values

Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Soo-hee) announced on the 20th that it signed a business agreement with the National Institute of Ecology, the nation's top ecological research institution, to promote ecological education for residents, becoming the first autonomous district in Seoul to do so.

The signing ceremony was attended by Lee Soo-hee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, Park Joo-young, Director of the Exhibition and Education Headquarters of the National Institute of Ecology, and other officials from both institutions, adding prestige to the event.

At the ceremony, the two institutions promised to actively build a cooperative relationship by mutually supporting and sharing human and material resources to spread ecological-centered values, enabling Gangdong-gu residents to become ecological leaders who act and practice for a sustainable future.

Since May, the district has been conducting the "Ecological Education Visiting Schools" program in collaboration with the National Institute of Ecology, targeting 200 classes across 28 elementary and middle schools in the area. The educational content was developed based on the National Institute of Ecology's specialized ecological research information, and a self-developed game-type application was used to further enhance students' curiosity and interest.

A student who participated in the education said, "It was not boring and was fun because we could actually see insect specimens and insect nets during the class."

Lee Soo-hee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, "It is an honor to be the first autonomous district in Seoul to sign a business agreement with the National Institute of Ecology," adding, "Through this agreement, we hope that the National Institute of Ecology's core vision of a 'natural ecological platform for coexistence between nature and humans' will be established starting from Gangdong-gu and spread nationwide. We will continue to communicate with the National Institute of Ecology and work together to spread ecological-centered values."
