Jung-gu Operates 'Visiting Water Sprinkler Truck'... Tackling Heatwaves and Lovebugs

Jung-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Kim Gil-seong) will deploy water trucks starting this summer based on resident requests. Spraying water with the trucks can help prevent the urban heat island effect and is also effective in controlling the rapidly increasing lovebugs, as lovebugs dislike moisture.

Until now, the district mainly deployed water trucks on main roads and side streets to cool down roads heated by the heatwave. From this year, they plan to operate a "Visiting Water Truck" service that will spray water in alleys and markets wherever residents request.

The "Visiting Water Truck" service will operate from July to September. Residents can apply at the local community center or the district office's cleaning administration department, and after coordinating the date and time, the water truck will be dispatched to the requested area.

To ensure smooth operation of the project, five additional water trucks have been secured from the private sector. This decision was made because the existing eight water trucks are insufficient to handle both the early intense heatwave and the lovebug surge this summer. When a heatwave warning is issued, 13 water trucks will patrol the alleys to cool down the heat and drive away lovebugs, even without resident requests.

Kim Gil-seong, Mayor of Jung-gu, stated, "In line with Jung-gu's policy brand 'Always a Reliable Ally, Jung-gu,' we will operate the 'Visiting Water Truck' service to tackle both the heatwave and lovebugs at once."
