Gyeonggi Province began accepting applications for the ‘Artist Opportunity Income’ program starting on the 24th.
Artist Opportunity Income is a key project of the 8th Gyeonggi Province administration aimed at expanding ‘opportunities for artistic activities’ that allow artists to take pride and focus on their creative work through fair compensation for activities that create social value, as well as expanding ‘opportunities for residents to enjoy culture in daily life.’ Last year, 7,252 artists received support through this program.
This year, eligible applicants are artists with valid general or emerging artist activity certificates residing in 27 cities and counties, excluding Suwon, Yongin, Goyang, and Seongnam, whose income is at or below 120% of the median income standard. Applications can be submitted until the 31st of next month.
Gyeonggi Province will select recipients through procedures including verification of applicants’ residence, income investigation, and confirmation of exclusion criteria by city and county. Selected general artists with valid activity certificates will receive an annual payment of 1.5 million KRW, divided into two installments of 750,000 KRW each in July-August and October. Emerging artists with valid activity certificates will receive a lump sum payment of 1.5 million KRW in October.
Kim Dohyung, Director of the Gyeonggi Province Arts Policy Division, stated, "The Artist Opportunity Income program, which started last year, has helped spread recognition of artists as creators of social value and boosted their pride. Starting this year, the payment scope has expanded to include emerging artists with valid activity certificates, which is expected to provide more opportunities to a greater number of artists."
