Continuous heatwave... Overnight temperatures exceed 25°C
Three consecutive years of June tropical nights since first case in 2022

Due to the continuous heatwave, the earliest tropical night on record was observed last night in Seoul.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 22nd, the lowest temperature in Seoul overnight was 25.1 degrees Celsius at around 2:29 a.m.

A tropical night is defined as a phenomenon where the temperature does not drop below 25 degrees Celsius from 6:01 p.m. to 9 a.m. the next day, meeting the criteria for a tropical night. It is analyzed that the tropical night occurred because the sky was cloudy overnight, preventing the heat accumulated during the day from escaping into the atmosphere, combined with the influx of warm southern winds.

The first tropical night in Seoul this year will be recorded as June 21, which is a week earlier than last year (June 28). This is also the earliest since modern meteorological observations began in Seoul in 1907.

Additionally, following the first-ever June tropical night on June 26, 2022, Seoul has now experienced its first tropical night in June for three consecutive years including this year.
