Police Officer Demanding Sexual Relations from Suspect's Mother Claiming "I Will Resolve Your Child's Case"... Sentenced to 6 Months Imprisonment

A police officer who was prosecuted for demanding sexual intercourse and sexually assaulting the mother of a suspect has been sentenced to prison.

On the 21st, Judge Jeong Yumi of the Seoul Southern District Court Criminal Division 11 sentenced Kim Mo (52), a police sergeant affiliated with the Seoul Gangseo Police Station, to six months in prison on charges of sexual assault. He was also ordered to complete 40 hours of a sexual violence treatment program.

The court judged that the sexual assault charges were credible, considering that the victim consistently testified to specific facts that would be difficult to know without direct experience, and that the victim’s submitted recordings matched the statements.

Regarding Sergeant Kim’s claim that his remarks were merely slips of the tongue made while intoxicated, the court rejected this, stating, "Given that he called the victim 17 times and the content of the messages sent to the victim, it is doubtful that he was intoxicated at the time of the incident."

The court explained, "As a police officer, he privately met with the victim, who was involved in the case, demanded entertainment and made sexually harassing remarks, and during this committed sexual assault. The nature of the crime is very serious, and the victim suffered great shock and is pleading for severe punishment."

Meanwhile, Sergeant Kim was non-custodially indicted last May on charges of touching the victim’s body and demanding sexual intercourse under the pretext of resolving his child’s case in December 2022. In response, the Seoul Gangseo Police Station placed Sergeant Kim on standby and excluded him from duty. Based on the trial results, disciplinary procedures against Sergeant Kim will proceed.
