Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 21st that two centers, Usan Health Living Support Center and Suwan Health Living Support Center, were selected as outstanding institutions in the ‘2024 Health Living Support Center Project Operation Evaluation’ hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, receiving the Minister of Health and Welfare Award.
In this evaluation conducted on 92 health living support centers nationwide, the two Gwangsan-gu health living support centers received high praise for identifying residents' health issues based on regional characteristics and promoting customized health promotion projects to address them.
The Usan Health Living Support Center supported residents in forming health groups through the ‘Healthy Usan Village’ project, enabling them to create a healthy community on their own. To eliminate health blind spots, it operated programs such as ▲health education for children in the Korean-Russian community, △physical activity programs for people with disabilities, and ▲obesity prevention programs for middle-aged women, earning recognition for resident satisfaction and project effectiveness.
With this award, the Usan Health Living Support Center has been honored as an outstanding institution five times since its opening in 2016.
The Suwan Health Living Support Center analyzed health indicators of Suwan-dong, identified health agendas in the village, and surveyed residents' health needs to operate customized programs such as chronic disease prevention and physical activity programs. It selected Humansea Complex 2 and 4 in Suwan-dong as healthy villages and promoted various projects including health classes to support residents' health promotion.
Park Byung-gyu, Mayor of Gwangsan-gu, stated, “We will strive to ensure that various health promotion projects supporting residents' health improvement through regionally customized health management continue to be implemented steadily in the future.”
