Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, has been the only local government in the Gwangju area selected in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's '2024 Local Love Gift Certificate Policy Project Support Contest,' and is set to revitalize neighborhood commercial districts.
In particular, as the designation of alley-type shopping districts is being significantly expanded to revitalize the local economy and support small business owners, the addition of the Local Love Gift Certificate project, which provides tangible benefits to local residents, is expected to greatly contribute to increasing sales for small business owners and promoting consumer activities.
On the 21st, Nam-gu announced, "We have secured a project budget of 412 million KRW after being consecutively selected in the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the Local Love Gift Certificate Policy Project Support Contest conducted nationwide by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety," adding, "We will invigorate the alley economy by expanding the use of Local Love Gift Certificates."
Through the Local Love Gift Certificate support project, consumers in the Gwangju area can receive up to a 12% discount when paying with the Gwangju Sangsaeng Card at affiliated stores in local alley shopping districts.
This is because, after receiving a 7% discount with the Sangsaeng Check Card, an additional 5% is supported as cashback accumulation.
The local alley shopping districts offering these benefits include two areas selected in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's 2nd contest: the area around Mudeung Market’s Gunbun-ro and the Baegun Square Street Food Zone, as well as five areas selected in the 3rd round: Baegun Daeseong Market, Yongdae-ro Shopping District, Baegun-dong and Bongseon-dong Food Alley, and Sajik-dong Tongguitar Street, totaling seven locations. Approximately 400 Gwangju Sangsaeng Card affiliated stores are located within these seven alley shopping districts.
The timing for applying the cashback accumulation support benefits varies depending on the selection timing of the government's 2nd and 3rd contest projects.
The alley shopping districts around Gunbun-ro and the Street Food Zone will be supported from July to December, while the other five shopping districts will be supported from August to December.
The additional discount accumulation will be provided as cashback the following month.
A Nam-gu official stated, "Through the expansion of Local Love Gift Certificate usage, small business owners can increase sales, and local consumers can benefit from reduced dining expenses," adding, "We will accelerate the implementation of related projects to greatly contribute to revitalizing the alley commercial districts."
