Launch of the Manhwa Promotion Committee... Writers Shin Kyung-soon and Lee Jong-beom Join

Policy Advisory Body Involving Creators and Industry Participants

On the 21st, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism established the Manhwa Promotion Committee and appointed the first-term members.

The Manhwa Promotion Committee is an organization established to provide advice on the promotion of manhwa creation and related industries. Its foundation was established through the revision of the "Act on the Promotion of Manhwa" in December 2020. Members are recommended by relevant administrative agencies and organizations, and appointed by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The term of office is two years. The chairperson and vice-chairperson are elected by secret ballot at the first meeting held on the same day.

The first-term members include creators and experts from industry, academia, and the legal field. They are writer Shin Kyung-soon, writer Lee Jong-beom, Lee Hyun-jung, CEO of Reillustrate, Jo Han-gyu, Vice President of Kakao Entertainment, Cha Jeong-yoon, Director of Naver Webtoon, Park Seok-hwan, Director of Jaedam Media, Kim Byung-soo, Professor of Digital Manhwa and Animation at Sangmyung University, and Seo Yoo-kyung, attorney at Artis Law Office.

Minister Yoo In-chon of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said, "As this is the first launch of a policy advisory body involving creators, industry, and experts, I hope meaningful discussions and collection of opinions for the development of the manhwa and webtoon industry will be achieved."
