12km from Hyeonsu 1-ri Bus Stop to Janghowon Bus Terminal
The Icheon 37 Course of the Gyeonggi Dullegil is a trail that follows the Cheongmicheon waterway. Starting by the water, you can enjoy various sceneries along the winding stream for 12 km. It takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete.
The starting point is at the Hyunsuri bus stop. It is easily accessible by public transportation from Gamgok Intercity Bus Terminal. The Cheongmicheon, which you follow throughout the walk, is a water source in the southeastern part of Gyeonggi Province passing through Janghowon, the former center of Icheon-gun. Walking along the embankment, you can see the sunlight reflecting and sparkling on the water waves during this season. The reed fields stretching along the path create a magnificent view, harmonizing with the sunlight and water ripples.
The vast rice paddies and fields viewed from this trail change with the seasons. The green fields turn golden in autumn. Sometimes, a heron leisurely wandering in these fields takes flight. Although slightly off the course, at Wonbu Reservoir, you can see a new landscape created by the surrounding mountains and fishing boats. This reservoir is located at the entrance of the village called Eousil and is well known as a good fishing spot.
Eousil is a village nestled deep in the Ogapsan Valley. It is said that many tigers lived on Ogapsan Mountain in the past. The place name Eousil originates from the roaring sound of a tiger, "eohung." At the foot of Ogapsan, there is the Eoujae Art Museum, named after Eousil. It houses over 200 pieces including paintings, ceramics, and sculptures.
The destination, Janghowon, was a state-run inn where government officials stayed during the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties. Inns were established between post stations, and the Yeongnam-ro passing through Janghowon has long been an important transportation route. Near the Janghowon bus terminal is the Gamgok Maegoesungmo Pilgrimage Catholic Church, established in 1896. It was the home of Min Eungsik, the sixth cousin of Empress Myeongseong, and a place where Empress Myeongseong took refuge during the Imo Incident in 1882. Several dramas such as "Yongpal" and "Uncontrollably Fond" were filmed here.
Taking a short break to quench your thirst with juicy peaches is also part of the enjoyment of walking this trail. Janghowon peaches, which began to be cultivated near Baekjoksa Temple in Janghowon around 1935, are known for their excellent sweetness and fragrance. From July to September, you can enjoy Hetsare Janghowon peaches, which means "plump and ripe under abundant sunlight."
