On the 21st, Mapo Cultural Foundation announced that the two will appear together in the 'Eotteongayo 9 - 7080 Legend Special' concert held on the 27th at the Mapo Art Center in Mapo-gu, Seoul.

The Eotteongayo series is Mapo Cultural Foundation’s representative popular music performance that meets singers who have made a significant mark in the history of Korean popular music in unique combinations, under the concept that ‘music is a time machine.’

This concert features Hye Eun-i, an icon representing the mid to late 1970s and recently familiar to audiences through KBS’s ‘Park Won-sook’s Let’s Live Together,’ and Kim Beom-ryong, who debuted in the 1980s with the hit song ‘Baram, Baram, Baram’ and sparked a craze so intense that a snack named ‘Baram Baram Bread’ was released after his song title.

Although the two musicians have worked together for a long time and maintained a close sibling-like relationship, this is their first time holding a concert together.

Hye Eun-i, who debuted in 1975, caused the ‘Hye Eun-i Syndrome’ by attracting public attention not only with her music but also with her hairstyle and fashion. She was an icon of the 1970s Korean popular music scene, enjoying K-pop idol-level popularity by releasing albums and touring not only in Korea but also in Japan and Southeast Asia, earning the nickname ‘7080 IU.’

In particular, her skills and popularity have been reappraised by various generations recently through past stage videos on YouTube. Her 1980 performance of ‘Saebyeokbi’ (Dawn Rain), featuring intense choreography and explosive live vocals, has recorded 3.44 million views and is regarded as a legendary stage.

Marking her 50th debut anniversary this year, Hye Eun-i will present a stage that encapsulates her 50 years of musical activity. She plans to perform a medley of hit songs including her debut track ‘You Wouldn’t Know,’ as well as songs that come to mind when thinking of Hye Eun-i such as ‘Gamsugwang,’ ‘Je3 Hanganggyo,’ and ‘Passion,’ showcasing her still vibrant diva spirit.

Kim Beom-ryong, the star of the 1980s oppa fan clubs and a popular ‘book cover star’ symbolizing the era’s popularity, will also join the stage. His debut song ‘Baram Baram Baram’ made a huge impact, earning him the New Artist Award and the title of Most Popular Song in the same year. Additionally, it was used as the entrance song for the athletes at the 1988 Seoul Olympics opening ceremony, cementing its status as a representative song of 1980s Korean music.

From the 1990s, Kim Beom-ryong has also worked as a producer, discovering the duo Green Zone among other talents, and has continued to actively release new songs up to last year. This concert will comprehensively showcase Kim Beom-ryong’s musical world, celebrating his 40th debut anniversary, featuring his hits as well as the emotional ballad ‘Byeolbam’ released in November 2023.

Song Je-yong, CEO of Mapo Cultural Foundation, said, “Since music has the power to summon the times of the past, we hope everyone will have a special time meeting their nostalgic selves through the stages of the 7080 legends.”
