Gangbuk-gu Operates 'Future Education (English·Science Camp)' for Summer Vacation

Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) is operating the '2024 Gangbuk-gu Future Education Camp' program for elementary and middle school students residing in Gangbuk-gu during the summer vacation.

The 'Gangbuk-gu Future Education Camp' (hereinafter referred to as the camp) is an educational event newly launched by the district this year, designed to allow students to experience the joy of learning nearby, enabling them to spend a fulfilling and rewarding summer vacation.

The camp programs offered include two fields: a conversation-focused native English 'English Camp' and a practice-oriented 'Science Camp.' The operation is entrusted to Sungshin Women's University, utilizing university resources such as faculty and practical facilities.

First, the English Camp will be held at Sungshin Women's University Mia Unjeong Green Campus from July 29 (Monday) to August 9 (Friday) for 10 days (excluding weekends), divided into a morning session (09:30?12:30) and an afternoon session (13:30?16:30).

The participants are 60 elementary school students in grades 1 to 3 residing in Gangbuk-gu, divided into beginner and intermediate classes after a level test. Lectures will be conducted by native professors from Sungshin Women's University.

The Science Camp will be held six times every Saturday from July 20 to August 24.

The programs include ▲ Robot Programming Camp (July 20 and 27, for first-year middle school students residing in Gangbuk-gu, 12 students per session), ▲ Life Science Camp (August 3 and 10, for elementary school students in grades 4 to 6 residing in Gangbuk-gu, 16 students per session), and ▲ Chemistry Camp (August 17 and 24, for elementary school students in grades 4 to 6 residing in Gangbuk-gu, 16 students per session).

The Robot Programming Camp will be held at Sungshin Women's University Donam Sujeong Campus Media Information Center, while the Life Science Camp and Chemistry Camp will take place at Sungshin Women's University Mia Unjeong Green Campus.

The operating hours are from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

Students wishing to participate can apply online through the Gangbuk-gu website starting at 9 AM on the 26th. The total number of participants is 148, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. The tuition fees are 80,000 KRW for the English Camp and 30,000 KRW for the Science Camp.

For more details, visit the Gangbuk-gu website or contact the district's Education Support Division or Sungshin Women's University Lifelong Education Center for guidance.

The district expects that through this English Camp, students will experience enjoyable and pleasant English, and the Science Camp will provide an easy and fun approach to programming, life science, and chemistry, subjects that students may find somewhat difficult.

Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, “Through the excellent instructors and programs of this Future Education Camp, we will instill interest and confidence in English and science among students,” adding, “Gangbuk-gu will continue to promote various educational projects for nurturing future talents and strive to create an educational city that changes lives.”
