The government has appointed Kim Wanki (photo), spokesperson for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, as the new Commissioner of the Korean Intellectual Property Office.
Commissioner Kim, born in 1971, graduated from Daegu Simin High School and Seoul National University with a degree in law.
Commissioner Kim, who entered public service through the 39th Administrative Examination, has worked at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy for over 30 years, holding various positions including Director of the Materials, Components and Equipment Industry Policy Division, Director of the Materials Convergence Industry Policy Division, Director General of the Trade Policy Bureau, and Director General of the Trade and Investment Office.
With Commissioner Kim's appointment, the Korean Intellectual Property Office welcomes a new head after about five months. Since the resignation of former Commissioner Lee Insil in January, the office has been operating under Acting Commissioner Kim Sihyung.
As the vacancy in the Commissioner position prolonged, internal policy implementation and subsequent personnel appointments were effectively halted.
