A Late-Night Commuter
Downstairs Neighbor Complains for 3 Months
"I Don't Even Use the Hair Dryer...
Shower Banned Because It Wakes the Child"
A person who has no choice but to shower late at night due to late work hours complained that they have been receiving complaints from the downstairs neighbor for over three months.
On the 19th, a post titled "Is it forbidden to shower between 11 PM and midnight?" was uploaded on an online community. The author, Mr. A, began by saying, "The downstairs neighbor has been continuously filing complaints for over three months, saying the shower noise is too loud."
Mr. A stated, "I get home around 10:30 PM," and added, "Even before the complaints started, I showered as quietly and quickly as possible to avoid disturbing others. I didn’t use the hairdryer because it might make noise." According to Mr. A, despite these efforts, the downstairs neighbor keeps complaining, saying, "The child keeps waking up," and asking to refrain from showering late at night.
Mr. A lamented, "Even after explaining that I come home late, the complaints continue. I wonder if I have to live so cautiously in my own home." He continued, "I have never received noise complaints before. I live alone and spend little time at home. I dislike making noise, so I live quietly. In fact, I’ve even heard that the neighbor thought the apartment was empty because it was so quiet." He added, "At first, I wondered if I was really noisy, so I said 'Okay' and tried to be careful, but the complaints never stopped. When I shared this with my friends, they said the downstairs neighbor is being too much. I don’t know how to handle this. If it were an adult waking up, I wouldn’t mind, but since it’s a child waking up repeatedly, I feel guilty," asking for opinions.
Netizens who read the story responded with comments such as, "It’s just everyday noise; the downstairs neighbor should let it go at this point," "It’s not like showering at dawn; showering at night is fine," "The child isn’t sleeping in the bathroom," "People working night shifts can’t even shower," "The downstairs neighbor is just being sensitive," "There’s a limit to being sensitive," and "It seems like they’re using the child as an excuse to complain."
On the other hand, some netizens commented, "If a child wakes up, that’s understandable," "Children are more sensitive to sound than adults. If I put my child to sleep but they wake up again because of water noise, I would complain too," and "Noise disputes between floors require hearing both the upstairs and downstairs sides."
