On June 20, Goryeong County, North Gyeongsang Province, presented the Hwarang Order of Military Merit, certificate, and commemorative plaque to Choi Honggon, the child of the late Private Choi Kyubyeong, a Korean War veteran, on behalf of the Minister of National Defense.

The Hwarang Order of Military Merit is awarded to war heroes who have participated in combat for the country or have shown dedication and made significant achievements in emergencies equivalent to combat. This award was presented as part of the "Korean War Order of Military Merit Recovery Project," which is being implemented by the Ministry of National Defense and the Army Headquarters' Korean War Order of Military Merit Recovery Task Force until 2027.
The late Private Choi Kyubyeong was selected as an award recipient in recognition of his achievements during the battle in the Cheorwon area of Gangwon Province as a member of the 30th Regiment of the 9th Division during the Korean War.
Lee Namcheol, Governor of Goryeong County, expressed his respect and gratitude for the sacrifice and dedication of the Korean War veterans, stating, "I am happy and honored to be able to present the medal to the bereaved family, even if it is belated. We will continue to do our best to honor and improve the welfare of national merit recipients and their families."
