On the 20th, LS Cable & System announced that it has signed a submarine cable supply contract worth approximately 280 billion KRW with Belgian power company ELIA.

The submarine cables will be supplied to Princess Elisabeth Island, an artificial island being constructed by ELIA in the North Sea about 45 km off the coast of Belgium. This artificial island is a floating structure that stores, distributes, and manages electricity connected to a 3.5GW offshore wind power complex.

Upon completion in 2030, it will serve as a hub regulating energy supply between the mainland, the United Kingdom, and Denmark. The island will be equipped with power conversion stations, energy storage systems, and power grid connection facilities. The submarine cables will be used to transmit electricity between the artificial island and the mainland.

LS Cable & System will supply 225kV submarine cables, accessories, and other materials, as well as carry out electrical connection work and on-site testing.

The company stated, "We will be the first cable manufacturer to gain experience in constructing submarine cables for an artificial energy island," adding, "This will enhance our competitiveness in securing large-scale artificial island projects promoted by Denmark and others in the future."

LS Cable & System is accelerating its global submarine cable business through recent initiatives such as building a factory in the United States, investing in LS Marine Solutions facilities, and advancing LS Eco Energy's business in Europe and Asia.
