Wando-gun Strives to Minimize Damage from Natural Disasters in Summer

Comprehensive Countermeasure Briefing on Heavy Rain, Typhoons, and High Water Temperature Preparedness Held

Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do recently announced on the 20th that it held a 'Comprehensive Countermeasure Report Meeting for Summer Natural Disaster Preparedness' at the county office situation room.

This report meeting was organized to establish preventive measures and check the roles of each department in order to protect the lives and property of residents from natural disasters such as the rainy season, heavy rain, typhoons, and heatwaves.

At the meeting, comprehensive countermeasures by department were shared, key progress was reviewed, and cooperation plans were discussed. The county formed 13 collaborative task forces under the Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters to conduct emergency duty during weather alerts and respond swiftly to disasters.

The 13 collaborative departments are responsible for disaster situation management, emergency livelihood stabilization and medical/quarantine service support, emergency restoration of facility damage, traffic measures, environmental maintenance, volunteer activities, and more.

As part of the comprehensive measures, a Heatwave Response T/F team will operate from May 20 to September 30, and when a heatwave alert is issued, disaster helpers will visit or call vulnerable groups to check their health status, aiming to minimize health damage to residents.

Additionally, 76 cooling shelters will be operated. Due to expected frequent heavy rains this summer caused by abnormal weather, maintenance of major road drains, dredging of sewage pipes, and maintenance of frequently flooded water areas have been completed.

Periodic on-site inspections will be conducted for landslide-prone facilities, steep slopes, disaster-risk areas, and regions vulnerable to wind and flood damage.

Given the characteristics of the area with many aquaculture facilities, preemptive response is important, so efforts will be made for harmful red tide monitoring and initial control, support for high-temperature response equipment, repair and reinforcement of aquaculture facilities, and strengthening safety management.

Kim Hyun-cheol, Deputy County Governor, who attended the meeting, urged, “Please do your best to create a safe Wando-gun by preparing detailed response manuals for each period.”
