The Korean-style ARPA-H project is a flagship project designated as a nationwide innovation-challenge type research and development (R&D) program. It aims to solve national health and medical challenges through a differentiated, pioneering R&D innovation system. The PM system is operated to realize professional research management centered on PMs, flexible research execution, and goals by firmly granting challenge and innovation to the research. Through the first recruitment previously conducted, Professor Hong Ki-jong of Gachon University (establishing health security) and Professor Lee In-gyu of Kyungpook National University (improving welfare and care services) were appointed as PMs and have officially started project planning.

In this second recruitment, PMs will be recruited for three mission areas: ▲ overcoming unmet diseases ▲ biohealth innovation ▲ essential medical regional completion system. Among these, the PM for the essential medical field must hold a medical license and have at least 10 years of research experience or research administration (management) experience in the relevant field.

Applications will be accepted through the Health Industry Development Institute’s website until the 8th of next month. Candidates will be finally appointed after document screening and first and second interview rounds. Detailed information can be found in the recruitment announcement.

Sun Kyung, head of the ARPA-H Promotion Team, said, "Compared to existing national R&D projects, the biggest difference of the Korean-style ARPA-H project is that mission-specific PMs are given enormous authority and responsibility to boldly undertake high-risk, high-reward research with a high possibility of failure but significant ripple effects." He added, "We hope for the interest and applications of many capable experts who are not afraid of failure and have a challenging attitude."
