"The person squandering national funds will be thoroughly investigated"
People Power Party lawmaker Bae Hyun-jin pressured Kim Jung-sook, the wife of former President Moon Jae-in, saying "the time of truth is approaching." This statement came as the prosecution began a formal investigation by starting a complainant investigation into suspicions surrounding Kim’s visit to India.
On the 19th, Lawmaker Bae wrote on Facebook, "The prosecution’s investigation into Kim Jung-sook’s visit to India has begun. This is the first step in two years since the issue was raised during the National Assembly audit." She added, "All thanks to the great public interest," and said, "The government department documents disclosed since two years ago will be actively used in the prosecution’s strict investigation," and "From now on, time will be on the side of truth."
She continued, "I will root out those who squander national funds as if they were petty cash," and said, "As a representative elected by the people, I will do my utmost without missing a single duty, including oversight and control of state administration, deliberation and approval of the national budget, and enactment or revision of laws."
That morning, the Criminal Division 2 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office (Chief Prosecutor Jo Ara) summoned and is investigating Lee Jong-bae, a People Power Party member of the Seoul Metropolitan Council. Last December, Lee reported Kim to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office on charges including abuse of authority, obstruction of rights, and aggravated punishment of specific crimes related to loss of state funds.

Earlier on the 17th, Yoon Geon-young, a Democratic Party lawmaker and former head of the Moon administration’s Blue House National Situation Room, reported that Kim had filed a complaint against Lawmaker Bae at the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul for spreading false information and defamation. In response, Lawmaker Bae said, "As news of the prosecution’s full-scale investigation pours out, they must be quite anxious," and added, "For reference, the Moon Jae-in Blue House previously sued the media that raised this issue for spreading false information but lost the case and quietly shut up."
She also said, "If the prosecution thoroughly investigates which parts of the documents held by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs are false(?), it will naturally be revealed," and added, "Former President Moon and his wife, former Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Do Jong-hwan, and Democratic Party lawmakers Ko Min-jung and Yoon Geon-young should just hold Moon Jae-in’s memoir and wait."
Former President Moon claimed in his recently published conversational memoir, From the Margins to the Center, that "The Indian side invited me to send my wife instead of me. It was (my spouse’s) first solo diplomatic mission," asserting that Kim’s visit to India was an official diplomatic activity at the invitation of the Indian government.
