Choi Hojung, Candidate for Second Half Chairman
The Seoul Metropolitan Council has its first female chairperson.
On the afternoon of the 19th, 75 members of the Seoul Metropolitan Council from the People Power Party held a full meeting and conducted a vote to select the chairperson candidate for the second half of the term (starting July 1).
The vote resulted in a three-way contest among council members Choi Hojung, Nam Changjin, and Park Junghwa, leading to a runoff between the top two candidates, Choi Hojung and Nam Changjin.
In the runoff vote, Council Member Choi Hojung (floor leader) defeated Vice Chair Nam Changjin and won the final victory.
Accordingly, the Seoul Metropolitan Council is scheduled to hold a plenary session on the 25th to officially elect Council Member Choi Hojung, the chairperson candidate from the majority party, People Power Party.
People Power Party’s chairperson candidate Choi Hojung is a three-term council member from Seocho-gu and the daughter of Choi Shijung, the former Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission and a top power figure during President Lee Myung-bak’s administration.
Additionally, Council Member Lee Jonghwan was elected as the People Power Party’s vice chairperson candidate.
Along with this, Council Member Lee Seongbae (Songpa) was chosen as the People Power Party’s floor leader.
