"Within 10㎥ per year, logging allowed without permit" Korea Forest Service relaxes arbitrary logging regulations

Regardless of the purpose, logging up to 10㎥ per year will be allowed without permission or notification.

The Korea Forest Service announced on the 19th that it has amended the "Enforcement Rules of the Act on the Creation of Forest Resources" to include this provision.

"Within 10㎥ per year, logging allowed without permit" Korea Forest Service relaxes arbitrary logging regulations

Until now, even if the land was owned by the individual, permission for logging was required to cut down trees in the forest. Moreover, forest owners were only allowed to log arbitrarily within limited cases such as disaster prevention and recovery, construction and repair of farmhouses, and use for agriculture, forestry, livestock, and fisheries.

However, with the amendment of the enforcement rules, forest owners can now log up to 10㎥ annually for non-profit purposes or personal consumption without separate permission or notification, regardless of the purpose.

The amendment was made to support the management activities of forest owners and to revitalize the livelihood economy by identifying and easing unreasonable regulations.

Nam Seong-hyun, Administrator of the Korea Forest Service, said, “We hope this regulatory improvement will make the management activities of forest owners and forestry workers easier. The Korea Forest Service will continue to listen to the difficulties faced by forestry workers and forest sites, reflect them in field policies, and strive to enhance forestry competitiveness.”
